American Revolutionary War Horseman's carbine, branded "UNITED STATES," attributed to Springfield

PRICE: Price on request

Description:

An unheard of rarity in amazing condition.  With only about 1300 carbines of ALL kinds in 1793 Federal inventories, these carbines are now vanishingly rare. There are only three American stocked versions, and this one, the best and only complete example. Made from a French Model 1733/4 carbine, sent to the as "foreign aid" during the American Revolution. Recently deaccessioned from the Westfield Athenaeum, just across the Connecticut River from Springfield Arsenal.  Mint, unissued condition as assembled, probably at Springfield.
As shown by its blonde ‘shady side’ this gun almost literally has not seen the light of day since it was put together. No wear whatsoever, as it likely traveled only two or three miles after it was made!
